BMW Repair: 1983 320i Low Beams inop, low beams, high beams

Question
Hi Don
The low beams on my 320i are currently not operating. I am currently operating on the high beam circuit with the high beams disconnected. I have replaced the fuse and swapped in a new relay which did not help at all.I noticed when I pulled off the lower steering column cover that all the wires that come out of the turn signal/ high beam switch go into a connector plug located under the dash except for one. This wire is just a couple inches long coming out of the switch and has a wireless connector on the end and is just loose. Unfortunately there seems to be no obvious place for this connector to plug into. Can this possibly be the problem. What other things should I be checking? All other lights and gauges are working properly.
                          Thanks

Answer
You need to first get to know what the problem might be and by that I mean is there power or no power. You need to get a test light to see where there is power.I know it may sound off beat but are the bulbs any good? This is where a test light comes in handy.Attaching one end to a good ground and the other to check to see if there is power.Start there first. The wires you mention if you stop and think about it, unless you disconnected it, it is an extra wire for (if you had a test light)what ever it might have been. The wires don't just fall out of the connections that they are mated to.Good luck, let me know Don
