BMW Repair: trunk release, fan blower, iron design

Question
2003 530i 5 spd/4 door.  The trunk release button near left door does not work.  Can't find fuse (either front or in trunk).  Ideas?  Where is fuse??

Also, the fan blower (interior) is stuck on high, the variable speed makes no difference (although sometimes it blows real slow for a bit).  It does shut off if I run the fan speed down to off.  Ideas on that?

Answer
Jeff make sure the glove box lock is not in the hotel setting (horizontal). Check fuses 4,11,27,38 & Fuse 53 in right rear fuse carrier. Check continuity of the switch when pressed and not. Check for power at the switch. If the trunk opens with the handle button when car is fully unlocked then the hotel setting is not the issue. There is a relay for the trunk opening but I am not sure of it's location at present. As for the fan speed issue I would check the final stage resistor for the blower fan. For instructions look at previous post for E39 Final stage replacement. If it is of the cast iron design replace it.
Sorry it took a while. Let me know what you find on the trunk electrical issue.
