BMW Repair: bmw e36 323i coupe wont start, bmw 323i coupe, failsafe operation

Question
hi i have a 1998 r reg bmw 323i coupe sports auto. i had to use my work van over the weekend and so i stored my car in the warehouse, i put it in there on saterday lunchtime and there was no problems at all, i went to move it out of the warehouse today and it just wont start, it turns over and i can hear compression but it just wont fire up. i have the asc light and a light that looks like a cog flashing on the dash when i turn it over? please please help as i desperatley need my car for work regards gary

Answer
The cog may be a gear which means trans fault or failsafe operation. Neither would cause a no start.Try some starting fluid and see if it starts. If your gas gauge is less then a 1/4 I would add some gas. If banging on the passenger side of the gas tank underneath while someone else turns the key, you need a fuel pump(also check fuse). Let me know if anything helped.
