BMW Repair: 94 BMW 325ic Starter, whacks, engine compartment

Can you tell me where the starter is located in the engine compartment on a 94 BMW 325ic?  My starter seems to have frozen and my local mechanic said that if I give it a few whacks I may be able to get it unstuck and save me from having the car towed into the mechanic's garage.  Thanks so much for your time.  Regards, John Kontra

You may have trouble hitting it. Its on the top of the engine, off to drivers side, under the intake manifold. You will not be able to hit it directed with a hammer but use a long extension and hit that repeatedly while an assistant tries starting. Just to let you know BMW starter rarely fail.
