BMW Repair: Starting problem, but swings, gas gauge, petrol tank

QUESTION: I had a broke dowm 4 months ago and replaced the fuel pump in the petrol tank. after this the idling was out but never had time to repair. 3 days ago while driving, the car just switched off and does not want to start but swings and makes a almost start noise. the tank was on a quater

ANSWER: and 2 gallons of gas and never believe a bmw gas gauge. if this does not fix give me the model

QUESTION: Thanks for the reply, I filled the tank afterwards and it still does the same. I checked spark plugs, fuses all belts are on.

Please advise further its a 318i motorsport 2, 1996

At this point I would need to have the car to go further with the diag. It could be so many things. If you are a tech and want to do the work your self, get back to me and I can walk you thru several thing to check but it may be time for the dealer.
