BMW Repair: Oil Light, head gaskets, oil light

The orange oil light on my 2001 E46 (RHD
comes on when I start the engine and stays on for 3 or 4 seconds then sometimes during driving it may come on again briefly, the car was recently serviced and the oil level is ok do you think this is an electrical or oil pump problem

Not for sure, but I would start with the oil level sending unit to make sure there isn't a problem with it.  It will be easier and cheaper than the pump.  If that doesn't work, you might see if there is relay as well to replace.  Otherwise it is probably something to do with the oil pump, but that is strange in such a new car.  Have the head gaskets ever been replaced?  I have seen them put on backwards and mess with the oil flow as well.  If that happened whomever did that service should fix it for nothing.  Just some ideas.  Hope they help.
