BMW Repair: maybe clutch, bmw 328ci, engine computer

Question
my car(BMW 328ci 2000) sometime losses power when I'm driving. RPM's will go high but car will not go any faster. when this happens the check engine light will turn on, but does not stay on for more then 48 hours or so. any idea what can be wrong?

Answer
Ken, you need to read out the fault memory in the DME (engine computer) to see what fault is stored. They can also measure the clutch thickness with a special tool that fits in the slave cylinder hole. Check the clutch for slipping that kind of thing. Pay one to two hours for diagnosis.
