BMW Repair: E36 1994 convertible tension straps, field service engineer, bmwcca

Question
I was in a car accident and rear ended another car... my convertible top worked perfect before and now doesn't. The role over protection system activated and pushed into the rear window and stretched them out. The window was replaced. Now the top once reset will not work. the body shop said to take it to the dealer and they said the tension straps are broken? They want $1500 to replace the straps? 7 hours labor?? is this right? Now the insurance company is saying that this wasn't caused by the accident and wont cover it? Can the role over protection system damage the tension straps when launched into to top? Let me know what you think
Thanks for your help/

Answer
Paul usually the tension straps just stretch out if the are physically torn in two then definately it could have been cause by RPS cassette deploying. Ask the dealer if the field service engineer could look at it and determine if this was the cause.
