BMW Repair: 2001 bmw 540i cooling system/code reading, 2001 bmw 540i, bmw 540i

first-where is the obd 2 plug on this car
2nd- got hot,tested and replaced thermostat,bled,still gets hot but radiator fairly cold especially lower 2 thirds,only 30-40 deg cel when engine is 95 on waterpump and thermo about 85 aside,so seems to be open,electric fan doesnt come on neither is viscous working any harder.takes no more than 10 mns to go above normal,comes back if i turn the climate control to max,but i dont run longer to see if it will rise.is this the water pump?top hose is 95 and lower at 55-65,does this model have the plastic impellor still,also is fan viscous nut a left or right hand thread..phew thats a lot to read :-)

Pete. Plastic impeller cars were early years of E39. Electric fan is suspect. Does it come on if you turn the A/C on? if not replace it. Nut on fan clutch is left hand thread. OBD 2 connector is on the left side of driver's kick panel/knee bolster. Does the bottom hose get hot and pressurize like the top. Fan clutch takes a while to come on but the electric fan should come on way before that. When the fan clutch engages you will feel the air all the way back at the windshield. Is the coolant swirling in the expansion tank? If you put a fan in front of the radiator does the temp stabilize?
