BMW Repair: 96 740 il wipers, gauge works, level sensors

Question
the wipers don't work i have no power at the motor.motor is good.fuses are good. is there a relay? where?
also fuel gauge works sometimes. when it doesn't work it reads empty and the light comes on. the last 7 of vin is dl40031

Pat, E38 has two wiper relays in the Electronics Box in the engine bay they are next to each other. Order two new relays PN 12 63 1 742 690
I found this on an old service information bulletin
(SIB 61 04 98)
So double check with your BMW parts counter person as this part number may have been updated since then.
As for the fuel gauge I would suspect faulty fuel level sensors in the gas tank (two of them one in each side).
