BMW Repair: e46 keyfob, door locks, key press

Question
Hello,i have a 318i,se 2001 model (e46)
The battery has seemed to have gone flat not unlocking the doors or activating the arlarm. So have to lock using the key. I was under the impression whilst the key is in the ignition the battery in the key fob will recharge? However how do i get my keys working again?
any advice would be appriciated thanks Jason

Answer
Jason, sometimes keys do go bad and you are correct that the key is supposed to recharge while in the ignition. Try to reinitialize them. Put one key in the ignition turn it one click forward and then back. Hold the unlock button while pressing the lock button three times then release the unlock button. The door locks should move to signal successful initialization. For the second Key press and hold the unlock button while pressing the lock putton three times and release the unlock button. Locks should move again. Check your fuses if this doesn't work.
