BMW Repair: 2000 323 Ci wont start, expansion tank, starter battery

Question
I just bought a 2000 323 Ci two weeks ago. While driving it home, the battery light came on, it over headed to the max, power steering stopped etc. Apparently a pullie ceased, broke the alternator belt, crack the expansion tank from over heating, and needed a tensioner. I replaced all of these items and now my car doesn't start on the first try. Or even the second and third sometimes. Usually it'll start if I take out the key and re-insert numerous times! Is it the starter? Battery? Spark plugs? Was the previous problem possibly the reason for this? Please help?

Answer
Tiff, does the engine crank over? If so does it crank over at normal speed? What happens when the motor doesn't start? The alternator not charging could have discharged the battery. Make sure the battery is charged          (12.6 Volts). Try a different master Key to start the car and see if that makes a difference.
