BMW Repair: Where to jack e46, rubber pad, rocker panel

Question
Should be an easy one! - I want to lift a rear wheel on my e46. For the rear I've seen mention of NOT using the dif - but there's a place just in front of it -? On the front I believe there's a mid lifting point between the wheels. I'm assuming the stands to go under the rubber jacking  points Please let me know where you would advise to put the jack. Thanks in advance. Roy

Answer
Roy, I don't see why you couldn't use the differential as long as it is cast iron and doesn't have any aluminum cooling fins or the like. You could try to jack under the front side rubber jacking point then place the stand on the rear rubber pad. If the car has a "V" brace that goes out to the rocker panel area from in front of the diff then you could use that too. Check your owner's manual and see what it recommends.
