BMW Repair: Starter & Charging problem, 1984 bmw 318i, bmw 318i

Question
Car: 1984 BMW 318i

Starter:  After shutting the car its starter started to constantly turn.  The only way to make it stop was to disconnect the battery.  Every time i attemt to reconnect the battery the starter starts turning... any ideas?

Charging:  The car has never recharged the battery since I have owned it, I replaced the alternator, voltage regulator, and battery.  I have ran it through my volt meter and it has read as it was charging the battery but shortly after it stopped again.. What should be my next course of action?

Thank you in advance.

Answer
Justin,
It sounds like you have something in the ignition switch that is stuck, causing the starter to turn.  I would tap on the ignition switch or something to see if it helps.

I would get the starter problem fixed first, then you can try to find out why the battery isn't getting/taking any charge.  If something electronic is malfunctioning it could be inhibiting the battery from charging.

You will need to trace some wiring if the switch isn't the problem.

 Good luck,
 Josh
