Answer
Reeti, driving with the inspection light on will not damage the car. Did you change the oil filter? Please go to the dealership and request the '97 vehicle Inspection form if you wish to perform the inspection yourself or have an independent shop do it. Please carry out the inspection in it's entirety. You either need a BMW reset tool or you can use the 20 pin under hood diagnostic connector to reset the lights. Jump pin 7 to ground (or pin 19)for around five seconds for an oil service or 15 seconds for an inspection with the key in position two no engine running. Don't reset the indicator without performing a proper inspection. This is a BMW not a Kia.
