BMW Repair: rear doors wont open 318i 1996, rear doors, bmw 318i

Question
My dad's 96 BMW 318i has jammed rear doors.  The doors will not unlock and will not open from the outside or the inside.

The lock mechanism on the rear doors (little tab that you depress or raise to lock and unlock doors) is stays in the locked position.  When I pull up on the tab it doesn't have any tension - as if it is not connecting to anything that will unlock it.  This is affecting both rear doors.

I have inspected the fuses and none are blown.

Have you ever seen this before?

Thanks for any advice.

Christine

Answer
Christine, I haven't seen this before, but I don't deal much with pre-99 cars. Sound electrical to me. The GM behind the glove box controls the door locks. Sorry but I would look at power, grounds, and the communication/actuation signal to the module.
