BMW Repair: Replace Steering Column Switch 1991 325ic, column switch, bottom piece

Need to replace steering column switch. just can't get covers of steering column. How is this done

 The top cover has a lip that goes behind the instrument cluster.  Its a pain, but if you wiggle it you can get it free without breaking anything.  The bottom piece just falls off when you unscrew the 3-4 screws that hold it to the top piece.
