BMW Repair: 97 bmw 528i fan clutch, fan shroud, fan clutch

Question
My 1997 528i is overheating.  I need to know how to replace the fan clutch

Answer
Tori, You need to get a long 32mm combination wrench (mine is craftman) and a hammer. Put the open end on the fan clutch nut (left hand thread) and with the wrench pointing straight up at 12 O'clock strike the closed end of the wrench just to the passenger side of center with a hammer. May take a few tries, but unthread the fan once loose. Remove the plastic retaining clips on the upper corners of the fan shroud and lift up far enough to get the fan out. With the fan out you can separate the fan from the clutch with the Allen bolts. Make sure you have the fan shroud in flush and in it's guides at the bottom of the radiator. Use the same method to tighten the fan as it doesn't need much because it will self tight a lot as engineered.
