BMW Repair: rear Washer pump, washer pumps, bmw touring

I have a 2000 BMW Touring it is a E46 330 diesel. This morning as i walked to the car I could here a whirring noise. I checked the load bay and the rear wash pump was running. When I start the car it stops and operates intermittently from the stalk. Very strange i know. Any ideas. Thankyou in advance.

Anthony, Never seen this before. You could try swapping the washer pumps but this sounds like a elect. supply problem. Sounds like the stalk could be faulty. I don't know that the stalk should have power with the key off though. I would have to check the wiring schematic.Very odd.
