BMW Repair: 1999 BMW 323i Drivers side power window repair, head bolt, bmw 323i

Question
Evan,
I read your response to a person who was having problems with their rear drivers side power window. What changes to your description of the fix for the front would apply?  Also, do you have a rough idea of the cost for the regulator?  Thanks in advance!
John

Answer
John, The front driver regulator # 51 33 7 020 659 (sedan) Also get five locking retaining nuts # 07 14 7 153 450. The pricing guide isn't working as present. I think it is under $120.00 USD. I know it is a little cheaper on sites like bimmerparts. The benefit of buying the part from BMW is that you get a two year parts warranty. This is to be considered on a high failure rate item like a window regulator. The procedure is similar the window doesn't need to be removed just taped up at the top of it's travel once the regulator is released. Make sure the little black nut stays in the window bracket when you release the silver 8mm head bolt that clamps the regulator to the window. Replace the regulator mounting nuts with the improved ones. You'll need long T-20,T-30 drivers. 8mm and 10mm sockets. Carefully cut off the foam vapor barrier. Replace it if it gets torn. They are very cheap. Remove the airbag connector ONLY with the key off. If the key is on with the airbag unplugged you will incur an airbag light. The five door panel screws are one behind the airbag logo, two at the bottom of the arm rest (behind the covers), one on the inner grab handle and one under the window switch on the sedans. Make sure all your door panel clips are good. Sorry for working backwards.
