BMW Repair: Replaced final stage resistor and blower still doesnt work, brake master cylinder, twist locks

Question
Hi Evan,

The climate control blower for my 2001 325i (E46) doesn't work at any speed setting. I researched the internet for the likely cause and became convinced that it was the final stage resistor.  I carefully replaced it but it did not fix the problem.  I have checked the fuses (first thing I did): they're OK.  I accessed the blower from the engine compartment and determined that is rotates freely but I did not perform an electrical test since removing it seemed to be very involved and I had no instructions.  Do you have any suggestions?  Are there relays that I could check or is it probably the blower . . . and if so, what is the procedure for replacing it?

Thanks.

Answer
Mike I believe the Final stage acts as the relay. Remove the squirrel cage blower motor from the engine compartment. Remove microfilter housing. Remove the ignition and fuel injection covers
(10mm headed nuts times 2).
Release two twist locks on cover next to brake master cylinder and move forward a little. Now you can release the screws for the lower heater bulkhead cover and access blower motor. Just make sure you have power at the motor when the A/C is on.
