BMW Repair: Flat spot bmw 520i e34 with m 20 engine, bmw 520i e34, bowden cable


Question
When idling if i tap the accelerator pedal sharply the revs drop and then return to normal.Whilst driving need to compensate with more gas in order to go from stand still without encountering the flat spot.Plse advice on how can i get rid of this flat spot.Many thanks.Regards Bashir

Hi Bashir,
Try cleaning with brake cleaner the top of the throttle valve assembly, then spray with light oil while moving levers for proper oil penetration. Remove intake boot of throttle valve, look inside to verify that the valve opens and closes properly.
Clean gummed up deposits inside that could prevent valve from opening and closing smoothly (use a light clean small piece of cloth soaked a bit with brake or throttle cleaner).
Then check the tension/adjustment of the bowden cable attached to the levers of the throttle valve.  It should not be taut nor slack but just at the right adjustment so that the valve opens immediately when needed and closes all the way when released. Verify that the  bowden cable does not snag inside. If you suspect a bad bowden cable replace same.
