BMW Repair: blower motor fan dont work, speed fuses, 2001 bmw 740

Question
hello.i own a 2001 BMW 740 IL. my fan stopped working.it doesn't work in any speed.fuses are ok.if it is the resistor or the motor do i have to get the dash out to get to it?
could there be anything else besides these 2 items?
thanks andi from detroit mi.

Answer
Andi, Most likely the motor itself or like you said the resistor. The motor is under the dash in the heater box. The resistor is bolted to it. You have to take the top part of the dash out and open the heater box. I recommed replacing the blower motor and the resistor together because you don't want to be in the dash twice.
Blower is part# 64 11 8 391 809
Resistor is part# 64 11 8 391 399
It could be the A/C control unit but I haven't seen this go bad on E38's. Although it would be simple to swap in a buddies control unit just to be sure. Again blowers are common, control units aren't in my experience.
