Pontiac Repair: fuel problems, crank shaft position sensor, crank sensor

Question
Where to begin I have a 2000 Grand prix with fuel problems , it started out with driving down the road and it would die but start back up then a few more miles and the same thing , took it and got it coded but i cant remember the codes now but i changed the thermostat cleaned out the canistor , changed the fuel filter, fuel pump , fuel relay and getn ready to change the regulator but iv ben told that it might be the crank sensor also , the car only has 95 thousand miles on it and it also has another problem also driving down the road the TCS light will come on and the tach will go dead pull over and shut it off and restart it and its fine for a bit , No check engine light ever comes on, Im a FORD guy but this is my girlfriends Wonderful gm product  and its a GTP turbo

Answer
Hi there:

from what you said here it would lead me to belive that you may have a crank shaft position sensor issue. VERY common for that model engine and of that vinatge as well. As for the TCS light on that would be related to a ABS issue more then likley a wheel speed sensor in one of the hubs. get it scanned for codes to see what wheel the codes are stored for. if it's setting a front sensor code replace the jumper harness going to the hub as well at the hub if the sensor is indded bad on the hub. check the reistance of the hub it should be somwhere between 1000-1400 Ohms and also either of the sensor terminals to ground. There should be no resistance at all between the hub and ground. If so replace the hub. when you check the resistance of the hub use a good quality meter like an OTC or a Fluke. cheap meters will not pick up a short to ground between the bub and ground on the body. good luck :-}
