BMW Repair: steering wheel vibration, wheel vibration, pitman arm

Question
hello, I have a 92 525i, and the steering wheel vibrates about 40-55 mph. even when i am not braking it vibrates bad. I have replaced the front bushings, front struts, completed front end alignment and front pads, the rotors are due to be replaced, the rims and tires are balanced also. I am stumped and about to shoot the car, i am guessing i need to replace the rotors? thank you

Answer
Scott,
The BMW (for some unknown reason) left their normal rack & pinion steering off the 5-series.  Your car has a steering box and pitman arm - type steering (not the best).  BMW is known for its cars having great suspension and steering, and why they would do this is beyond me...

Anyhow, there are alot of connections on this system, and if even one of them is worn it will cause problems.  My father has an 89 525i, and he had to replace all the bushings under the front to get the car to stop vibrating.  If it were rotors you would only see it during braking.

 Good luck,
 Josh
