but still has a hard starting problem, please help!

Answer
Hello Robert,
Chances are that you have multiple problems here.
First, code 1444 means no more faults (but it does not mean there is nothing wrong, simply that there are no faults set).
Second, you were right in re-soldering the pulse generator connected to cable 6.
Hard starting can be due to a lot of reasons:
a) loose compression (meaning your valves and piston rings
are worn out (compression testing verifies this).
b) ignition problems (lack of a strong spark at the right time at the spark plugs)--ignition timing testing with a timing light is needed and a look at the spark plugs and the actual spark that it gives when cranked has to be verified
c) lack of fuel or enough fuel pressure at the injectors( can be tested with a fuel pressure gauge).
Based on your story, hard starting can either be due to bad ignition timing or bad fuel supply or both. And the engine
choking and seeming to want to run backwards as you describe is due to bad ignition timing or bad valve timing (the latter due to a wornout or improperly set timing chain/belt).
The problem with ignition timing with this particular car is that you can only check the ignition timing but not adjust it. And there is no solution for a bad timing belt but to check the belt/chain and the valve timing.
Diagnosis of your car's problem can be a tedious and long process. But it can be done by a qualified mechanic or knowledgeable do it yourselfer who has the right tools and
information.
I hope that I have given you some insight on your car's problems.
