BMW Repair: power steering 1985 735i, rear hole, fluid reservoir

Question
I found a leak in a pressure hose that comes up from the steering box. Is the exchange a straight forward one, or is there something I need to be aware of before exchanging it.

Answer
Hi Chris,
It does not need an engineer to do it. If you are referring to the pressure hose that connects to the rear hole in the gear box, the one nearer the driver, this is P/N 3241113771 and you also need 4 washers (either 32411093596- Copper, or
32411129986-Aluminum). You can remove and replace it with simple hand tools (if I remember right either 17, 19 or 22 mm sockets/wrenches).Use common sense in tightening the connections but recheck after bleeding while engine is running. Now about proper bleeding: with the engine not running, fill the fluid reservoir almost to the top with ATF, then turn the steering wheel about  7 to 10 full turns, then refill the reservoir to approx. 2/3 full(if needed), then start the engine and turn the steering wheel 12 to 20 turns.
Re-check for leaks and tighten clamps/bolts as needed.
Voila you are done!
Have fun...
