Motorcycle Repair: bagttery charging, car battery charger, suzuki savage

Question
A few questions regarding batteries/battery charging:
1. Where is the battery located on a 1987 Suzuki Savage?
2. How do I access it?
3. Can I use a car battery charger to recharge?
5. If I jump from a car, should car be running, or not?

Answer
Marc,

1.battery is under the right side cover.

2.you can access the positive terminal
through the side cover. To remove the
battery you need to disconnect the negative
and positive wires. You may need to remove
the seat and a metal cover on the top
of the battery holder to do this.
The battery should slide out the right side.

3.you can use a 4-6 amp car charger but
keep an eye on the battery temperature.
It should only be used for an hour or two
at most to prevent overheating and damage
to the battery.

4.I don't recommend boosting from cars
as the amperage is very much higher
than a bike. Electronic module damage
is possible.
If absolutely necessary, do it quickly and
with the car off or hook up the car
battery for a few minutes to charge
the bike battery and then remove the
cables before starting the bike.
