BMW Repair: e46 window problem, plastic pulley, regulator assembly

Question
Hello,
I saw that you answered a previous question about the repair of a window that stopped working.
I have a 2001 325i and I recently had the same problem on my rear driver's side window.  I refered to your hints (as well as some other poking around on the net) and would like to say thanks for the help!

But the story isn't over!
Like I said, I replaced the "regulator" as they call it.  I put everything back together and the window appears to work fine.  That is, if you never knew I fixed anything, you probably wouldn't suspect there is any problem.

The only thing is, I'm concerned that there is some sort of motor adjustment for the one-touch up/down operation that I need to do.  The reason I ask is this...after I installed the regulator, but before putting the vapor barrier back, I tried the window out a bunch of times.  I noticed that when the window hits the top, you can see that the motor torques a bit.  The same thing happens when it hits the bottom.  It seems like the motor is only stopping due to the resistance of hitting the extreme up/down position.  I'm not sure if that's normal?  I'm concerned about 2 things:
1 - is it bad for the motor to always be stopped due to resistance?
2 - it also puts stress on the whole regulator assembly, which means it's putting stress on that same little plastic piece which broke in the first place.

note that I did unplug the motor, and I'm wondering if that might have reset it somehow.

So in short, my question is, is there a need to adjust the motor (or the computer controlling the motor) to realize where the extreme up/down positions are, in order to prevent stresses on the motor and regulator assembly?

thanks a lot!!
Igor

Answer
Igor, these windows dont really have any major adjustment. As long as the window is in the track and the regulator was installed in the same location as the old one you should be fine. The metal cable over a plastic pulley is a japanese design that the germans have adopted. It is a poor design indeed. Make sure you keep your receipts from the regualtor because all factory BMW parts are covered under a two year parts (and labor if installed at a BMW center) warranty. Failure is common and is something you have to be aware of. Turn the key on an hold the window switch up in the one touch position until the window reaches the top. Release. Then hold the switch up again for 5 seconds. The window one touch feature should work normally after this initialization procedure.
