BMW Repair: M3 Clicking noise from steering wheel column on rotation, steering wheel, slip ring

Question
I am witnessing a clicking noise from my 2002 Me when I turn the wheel 180 degress or more directly from the steering column.  It sounds like its touching against the locking mechanism perhaps?  Happens on rotations in either direction.  Thoughts?

Answer
Sal, most mechanical noises are the result of a failing slip ring. This is under the steering wheel and transmits the horn, MFL buttons to the rest of the vehicle. Also could be a bearing in the column. Remove the airbag, steering wheel and covers and see where the noise is comming from.
