BMW Repair: 2000 323 convertible roof microswitch went bad, hall sensors, windshield frame

Question
Hi,
Recently the convertible roof light on my dash started blinking. My top would not go up. I investigated on the internet and found the microswitch problem that controls the lid opening. I took my car to the local BMW shop and they said it was not that switch but one that senses whether the roof it self was securely latched. They also told me that in order to replace this $100 part would require 5 manhours (at $93.00/hr) to replace since they would have to remove the entire convertible roof to replace it. I just wanted to get your thoughts on this.
thanks again for all the help, you guys are great

Answer
Jeff, I can think of at least ten microswitch/hall sensors to that convertible top system. If the tech is speaking about the hall sensors on the windshield frame lock drives then you don't have to remove the C-top to replace them. If he is speaking about another switch somewhere in the top assembly then I could see five hours easily. I really need to know what switch exactly he is replacing. How much time did you have in diagnosis? C-top complaints spell pain for either the tech or the owner.
