BMW Repair: vibrating stearing wheel?, ball joints, bmw318

Hi, i just got an S Reg BMW318 convertable, and i realised that the stearing vibrates a lot when im driving? (gets worse when i go 40mph or over)
the tyers have been checked, and ballanced, any ideas what it could b? thanx

 Chances are that the front suspension is worn (depending on mileage).  The ball-joints and Tie-rods wear out and will allow the wheels to shimmy a little.

 Have them checked/replaced and it should fix any problems (providing your tires are balanced).
