BMW Repair: power seats wont move forward only back, side seat, forward position

I never had problems with the power seats, I went to move the driver side seat back a tad when driving, decided it was better where it originally was.  The seat would not move forward nor would any control move in the forward position only would they move back.  Are their separate motors for the seats.  Does the seat need to be removed?  I can hear a clicking when the buttons are pushed,but the seat will not move forward in any direction.  The red memory light lights, but nothing happens.  No fuses were blown.  Is this something I can take care of or should I bring the vehicle to a dealer.  The vehichle is a 2000BMW 323CI.  Thank you.

Jay, raise the seat to the highest postion and figure out which motor controls longitude adjustment. Tap on the motor while trying to operate it. It sounds as though the motor is not working if you can hear it clicking. The dealer can replace the motor. It's not an easy job.
