Question -
My rear window will lift as it should but the cover no longer comes up to let the top tetract. I had the car reconned and it happened the next day. A friend told me that there is a lever under the left rear seat that they probably moved and disconnected the motors. How do I get the cables to go back from pulling the lever. Thanks

Answer -
Gary,
I need to know what kind of car you have before I can help.  Send that info and I can find/fix the problem for you.
 Thanks,
 Josh

Answer
Gary,
If the place that "reconned" the car did something, I would take it back to them for it to be corrected (free of charge).  That is a possibility that the motors were disconnected for whatever reason, but the people who disconected them had to get to them somehow.

If you look at the above link, it will show you how the top goes together.  It looks like there are some rods running to the electrical motors, and if you were to disconnect them, the top should fold so you can get to the motors.
As I put in my decription of skills, I know mostly about the E30 (1984-1991 BMW 3-series), and I originally thought you might have an E30 you needed some convertible help with (I own one).  Unfortunately you own an E36, and I know little about the top systems on those cars.

Check out roadfly.com, or bimmerforums.com and click on the E36 link.  You can register and ask questions to those guys who know more about your car than I do.

 Hope this helps,
 Josh
