BMW Repair: 1993 325i window switches?, window switches, rivet gun

Question
I have a problem where sometimes my passenger side window will go down and sometimes it wont.It wont work for months all the sudden it will work for a day or two.Someone told me the regulators go very easily on this model or could it be the switch? My check engine light is also on,sometimes the yellow check light is on too....is it a serious problem?

Answer
Hi Ken, The regulators or window motors do go bad.  Very rearly do the switches go bad.  Sounds to me like you need a new window motor.  If you do it your self, Make sure you have a rivet gun and some rivets because i don't believe they are bolted on.  And be carefull with the airbags in the doors.  If you do do it your self.  Tell me first, because there is something you need to know about those airbags in the doors before you go taking them off.  The check engine light could be something serious and it could not be.  Take it to any shop and for about $40.00 they can plug a scanner in it and pull the codes for you and you can go from there.  I can't tell you what the light means unless i can plug my scanner in it.  If you get the codes pulled from the computer then i can tell you what they are.
Good luck,

Rahim.
