BMW Repair: 98 318ti gas vapors after filling tank., gas vapors, gas fumes

Question
My garage has significant gas fumes only after filling the gas tank. Fumes only detected outside of vehicle. Can't locate any visable leaks. Any suggestions?  Thank you.

Very strange.
Usually a 1996 up car will set a check engine light off if there is a fuel system leak.
If your local garage has a gas analyser you can fill it up and let them go over it.
The hydrocarbon scale should peg out when it gets near gas fumes.
