BMW Repair: 89 325i Electrical Problems, tach light, electrical knowledge

Question
I had a couple of lights go out on my 1989 325i; the tachometer and HVAC bulbs went out simulatneously.  They came back on for a couple of days then have been off for about a month now.  Having previously replaced the tachometer bulb, I thought I was up to the task.  I swapped it with the speedometer bulb and the tach light was still out.  I decided to bypass the BMW setup and jumped a wire from the working side(speedo) to the non-working side(tacho).

Big mistake, now the entire instrument cluster is out, my OBC reset, and when I turn on the parking/headlights the OBC lighting shuts off, but maintains power...I assume.  This leads me to believe that something is now causing a short...but my electrical knowledge is limited (obviously) so I don't know where to start.

Worst is now the car will not start.  I undid my jumpers hoping this would remedy the problem but to no avail.  I checked the fuses and they are all good.  I also disconnected then reconnected the negative battery terminal and this didn't help either.  I've cranked the car once since then and it ran fine for 10 minutes, but now it just turns over and over with no start.  Please help!!  Thanks,

Answer
Sounds like you have invented a whole new way to conplicate something.  The only advice I gave give is to get an electical diagram and start tracing the power feeds to the cluster and hope you find something. The no start worries me.Unless you fried a wire Im guessing you took out the computer.
