Paul,

I have been having some weird electrical problems as of late, but the main one now is the brake lights won't come on.  I have checked the fuse (#46) in the fuse block, and replaced it with another 15amp just in case.  The brake light failure message just came on yesterday.  It has been doing so for a while intermittently, but I have changed the bulb or socket and it was fine.  Or, i shut down the car and let the computer reset it. Any ideas?

do the brake lights work, but the display says brake light failure? if so, make sure you are using bulbs that have a silver base and not a brass colored base as they will set an erroneous messsage

They don't work at all.  The blinkers work, the hazards work, the lights work, but not the brake lights.  I have been reading a lot of different forums and they all seem to point to the brake switch under the pedal and dash... ? I only have one vehicle and need to troubleshoot and correct this.  It is quite frustrating.

Answer
did the display read brake light circuit? if so, then definately change the brake light switch, if not, first check that you have installed the correct bulbs in the correct locations of the tailight lens. also make sure that the blb sockets are not melted or corroded and check the same on the tailight lenses
