BMW Repair: ABS Light On and steering wheel off center, 525i bmw, anti lock braking system

Question
525I BMW

Does the steering wheel have to come off to center the steering wheel and is it something that can be done easily and is there a way to turn off the ABS light, especially if the bag has never been employed?

Recently purchased car.  Is 200K a lot of miles for a 1991 525I?

Answer
if the wheel is off center it is for a couple of reasons. 1 the steering gear was never centered when an alignment was done. 2 something in the front end could be bent. 3 someone removed the steering wheel to center it and now the steering gear is off center. but yes, you can remove the steering wheel to center the wheel, make sure the key is in the off position when you do this entire procedure. if the abs light is on, it is indicating a malfunction in the anti lock braking system. it should be checked out. that mileage is about average. the only concern is how well the car was maintained and if there were any major problems with the car.
