BMW Repair: Steering lock / starter, switch problem, lock cylinder

My 7 series key lock has broken..the key just goes round and round.. (7 series 728 1997)  

Is it easy to get the lock out to replace it ?

Can I start the car any other way if I have to take it to the dealer ?

you will haveto tow the car to the dealer or a shop that has the equipment to deal with this issue, the car has many components that work together to prevent theft, the downside is that when it has a malfunction you are left with few options, this sounds like a lock cylinder/ignition switch problem.
