BMW Repair: power sunroof, power sunroof, limit switch

Question
Michael, forgive me for my choice of words.  However, what I meant was that my 1997 528i's power sunroof won't tilt up when I press the button.  The sunroof does open and go back but it will not tilt up to allow ventilation.  Is there a way to troubleshoot this problem?  Please help.

Answer
It's most likely a limit switch that has a bad ground or wire,  attempt to crank it manually (either in the headliner in front of the sunroof or in the trunk, drivers side)  if it goes, then the problem is electrical, if it has resistance or doesn't go, the problem is in the linkage.  I believe the limit switch is located with the motor and linkage and could be checked with a ohmeter or powered test light.
