BMW Repair: 98 740iL intermittent elec. failure, airbag warning light, range fuel

Question
Hi Michael.  I recently purchased a 740iL and have loved it.  I had started to notice that the BC console (radio cd phone BC Time) wasn't always reading correctly.  I'd shut down for awhile and restart, and everything would work fine.
2 nites ago I left for a 3 hour trip.  After 30 minutes I turned on the cruise control and started to set it.  It turned on, then just 'let go'.  I guess it turned off at that time, and I cwouldn't get it to work after that, although I could turn it on and off -- at least the light would go on in the instrument cluster.  Then I noticed that the airbag warning light was on.  I got off the highway and shut down for a few minutes and restarted the car.  The airbag light flickered lightly again and finally went off, but now my entire audio console and the BC readouts for range, fuel efficiency, etc. and the phone were all dark.  I shut down and restarted again, with the same problem.  So I continued on my way.

As I drove, I found that the driver's seat would no longer adjust, and the sunroof would not move.
After another 30 minutes or so of driving this way, suddenly, everything came on -- the CD player started up right in the spot where it had been when I had shut down earlier, the displays all worked, and the cruise control worked all the way to my destination.

On the way home last night, everything worked fine for the 3 hour drive.  But a half hour after arriving home I went out to move the car, and the audio accessories and BC readouts would not work.  I checked all the fuses, without finding any problems.  I tried to look for loose wires or connections, unsuccessfully.

Now all of the accessories mentioned above -- seats, cruise, fone, audio, BC readouts fail to respond.  I'm very concerned. I have a 7 hour drive for work tomorrow, and I'm worried about whether my computer is failing, and if I'm going to be stuck with problems that go way beyond the accessories.

Does any of this ring a bell with situations you have seen?  I'm desparate to know what I can do before I leave town tomorrow morning.

Thanks

Answer
My best answer would be that you have a ground somewhere that is messing with the computers in your car.
Other possibilities include a fried computer/s possibly a result of a miss connected battery or short to ground. Or a wiring harness that is receiving more than normal amounts of resistance caused by a screw or pinch somewhere in the many wiring harnesses.  The problem with the diagnoses is that the problem is intermittent and related to the functionally of the computer.  Should the computer be operating correctly, it could tell you what sensor/S are malfunctioning but should it be computer related the computer may be too messed up to send a code to the diagnostic reader expressing it's delimma.  check the codes if you can and analyze the most recent services/modifications and see if they could have an affect on wires or computers.
