BMW Repair: 1989 80 Quattro wont start, audi 80 quattro, phoenix area

Question
This isn't your normal area but, have an Audi 80 Quattro that won't start, no spark from the coil.  Have replaced the coil with no luck.  Had problems earlier with fuel regulator.  Car would start and run fine until warmed up, then would lose power and rpms would drop to idle speed.  Stepping on the gas did nothing.  Car had to cool down before it could be driven anywhere.  Disconnected the regulator(mounted on the side of injector) and car ran fine except was hard to start.  Would appreciate any and all help, as this vehicle is my exgirlfriend's and she needs it to get our kids to school and appointments

Answer
I'm not familiar with that cars injection system but what i do know:
the idle stabilizer computer mounted in/on the fire wall in the engine compartment has been known to go bad but mostly it only causes poor idle.
check the reference sensor mounted either in the tranny(BMW) or on the harmonic balancer (metal disk mounted in the front of the engine)  if the signal is messed up the car will not spark.  I'm assuming you are getting some voltage at the coil during cranking? if not, you need to check the circuit (fuse, relay ect).  i would recommend you get on some Audi message boards and sites to see what is most likely the problem, since i don't work on these cars i have no idea the systems they employ for different functions.
If your in the phoenix area i may be able to stop by and take a look at it.
