GMC Repair: 1999 GMC Sierra 1500 5.3 l, fuel pressure gauge, gmc sierra

Question
My truck is starting but then it just shut off and the I can not get it started again. How do I know if it is the Gas pump that needs to be replaced? When I turn over the key I can hear the gas pump running. What should I do?

Answer
Hi
You can check the fuel pressure by getting a fuel pressure gauge and hooking it to the schrader valve  which is located under the plastic engine cover. On the right (passenger side) you'll see the test port.
attaching the gauge to this port and cranking the engine over you should have between 55-60psi.
IF NOT the fuel pump will need to be replaced. It is located inside the fuel tank.
