GMC Repair: 2004 GMC ENVOY IAT SENSOR (4x2) 4.2 v6, mass air flow, gmc envoy

Question
I am so grateful to have found this site! I have an 04 GMC Envoy. When I turn the A/C on the truck would start to jump and Hesitate to when researching I found and cleaned the throttle body, this did not work. However I noticed that the tube connected to the hose on the air intake was disconnected(located on the bottom side) when I connected it back, the truck started to jump massively and it began to run extremely hot. I took it to have the ODB read on it it was reading off that it's the IAT Sensor. I have purchased one and also a thermostat just incase.  Would the IAT sensor make the truck run hot? and do you know of any website where I could pull a diagram of how to change the IAT sensor myself? (sorry no mechanic here just a single mom thats frustrated) I thank you in advance for your help God bless!

Answer
Hi
Is this a V8 or 6 cylinder vehicle?
IF a 6,
The IAT sensor is replaced by just unplugging the electrical connector, and pulling it out of the air tube.
The Thermostat is quite a much larger, major job, that I would highly recommend you consider taking it and having it done. The thermostat should set a P0128 when it is at fault.
If that codde is not present, i WOULD NOT replace it.
If an V8, the IAT is part of the Mass Air Flow (MAF) sensor and needs to be replaced as a unit.
The thermostat on the V8 is also fairly involved and again, I would HIGHLY recommend you consider
having it done professionally.
