GMC Repair: 00 z71 transfer case motor, tcase, transfer case

Question
I have a 00' gmc 4wd 5.3, single cab rpo code np8. I am about to change the transfer case shift motor. After reading one of your previous answers I have only 1 question. I pulled the in-op shift motor and don't know which direction to turn the shaft coming out of the t case to get it to neutral so I can install the new motor. Any info would be much appreciated. Thanks for your past answers and, thanks in advance for your help.

Answer
Hi
A new GM or Delco motor comes in the neutral position. So all you need to do is turn the transfer shaft to line up with the new encoder motor.
If the motor is used/aftermarket, you can shift the transfer case either direction to line up to the motor splines.
Also to find neutral, usually the open spline is at about the 6oclock position. You can verify this by shifting the Tcase to that position, and the truck should roll freely, even with the transmission shifted in Park.
The TCCM(Transfer Case Control Module) should learn the new nuetral position after installing.
I hope this helps!
Good Luck and thanks!!
