GMC Repair: Instrument Panel Light Dont Work, pontiac bonneville ssei, 2001 pontiac bonneville ssei

I just purchased a 2001 Pontiac Bonneville SSEi, and most of the instrument panel lights don't come on at night.  The gear indicator light, compass and vehicle data lights are the only lights that come on at night.  The rest do not come on along with the heater and radio lights, speed, fuel water temp etc.  The LCD lights do come on for the radio and heat do show the info but the buttons do not come on.  I did replace the fuse for the instrument panel and this did not help.  I live in a rural area and  I am 150 miles from a Pontiac dealer so i want to try to fix this myself.

Do the little lights in the door switches work (eg..for the window up/down, door lock, etc... AND does the steering wheel controls illuminate {Volume, station etc..}?)
Please follow post back and PLEASE check the "PRIVATE" box.
Also if any of these lights DO illuminate (door, steeringwheel) do they dim and brighten with the rotating switch?
