GMC Repair: 2002 gmc yukon, fuel pressure regulator, crank shaft

Question
I have a 2002 gmc yukon with a 4.8L aoto transmission, 4dr 2wd.  While driving down the road the yukon dies without warning.  We had a dealership tell us the fuel injectors were clogged and what not, had it fixed and it still dies without warning.  So we took it back in and they said it was the fuel pump.  They want to charge almost $900 to fix it.  So we called another dealership and they said without looking at it it sounded like the crank shaft and sensor or something of that sort.  We have to let it sit for a 10-15 minutes before it will start back up.  So advice on this would be greatly appreciated.  And yes the fuel pump kicks on and we replace the fuel filter too.
thanks Rick

Answer
Hi
The pump may "kick on" but is it pumping??
There is the determining factor.
A GOOD mechanic will check fuel pressure. It SHOULD be 55-62 psi.
If it is out of specs, it will be the fuel pump.
900.00 seems about right, the part is OUTRAGOUS.
You MAY also want to check and see if your vehicle falls under recall for faulty internal tank wiring.
I would ALSO have them check the fuel pressure regulator...they are known to leak on these engines.
I Hope this helps
