GMC Repair: CP1345 Code, grease pencil, spd auto

Question
I'm working on a 2WD 1998 1/2 ton Chevy P/U with A 5.7L V8 and a 4 spd auto.  Not being aware that the timing was auto controlled and trying to fix a hard to start (slow rotation when hot) problem, I adjusted the dist.  Well to no surprise the SES light came on and spit out the CP1345 code.  When I found out what it was I spent some time trying to get the dist back in the original position with no luck.  In the mean time the intake manifold started leaking water, again........  So I figured that I would get the timing lined up when I replaced the gaskets.  Well I just did that and I was very careful about getting the timing dead on but when I started the truck the light was still on.  From everything I've read this is a self clearing code and should have reset when the timing was reoriented right?  If it wasn't the dist position that set the code, what else could be causing the code to reset when it's cleared?

Answer
Hi
On the black plastic intake on REAR facing the firewall AND also on the distributor there is a small SMALL light yellow painted streak. You;'ll need a mirror and a good light source. LOOK close you'll find it it almost looks like a grease pencil sixe line. This line HAS to match up. Turn the dist until the line matches the distributor witht he line on the plastic intake manifold. Then tighten the dist down.
This should clear your light AS LONG as you are not one tooth off mechanically. (which it sounds like your not).
