GMC Repair: 2003 headlamps both out same time, beam headlights, low beams

Question
Hi,

I have a 2003 Gmc Envoy.  Both low beam headlights went out at he same time.  I checked the fuses and all is ok.  Is this a relay problem?  Is this something a novice can fix without bringing the car in to the dealer?

Thanks in advance for your help.

Nick

Answer
Hi
With an assistant. have them turn on the low beams and you have hand on the HDM relay under the hood.
If it clicks, the headlamp switch is OK.
If not check the switch.
If it does click you can check the fuses (LOW HDLP LEFT and LOW HDL RT) with a test light.
If they power up, remove the headlamp assy (Pull up on the 2 thin metal "tabs"). then check the yellow wire for power on the left side and the Tan and white wire on the right for power.
If so, the bulbs are at fault ( I have had the SAME exact thing happen to me twice on these vehicles).
If they do not light with test light, the wires or the fuse block MAY be fault.
If more help is needed, please feel free to contact me with a follow up post.
Thanks
